Cigar Society of Chicago

11 July 2021

Dear Cigar Society Members:

Much to the dismay of many of you, we haven't convened any Cigar Society events at all—either online or in-person—since the end of May. Your loyal secretary (that's me) and the board are working on this, and we are in the process of putting together some hybrid events for the rest of the summer in Chicago:
☞ in-person and online, with our usual lecture/discussion format, at one of the downtown clubs with outdoor space;
☞ in-person with informal conversation at one of the two or three places downtown that still permit us to smoke cigars;
☞ informal drop-in video conferences through Zoom on Tuesdays when nothing else is scheduled. I'll let you know more about this later in the week.

Coming to the rescue in the meantime, and in addition to these efforts, longtime Cigar Society member Mary Beth Rebedeau has invited our members to a garden party and fundraiser for the Friendship Botanic Gardens in La Porte, Indiana (14 miles directly south of New Buffalo) this coming Saturday. Make your reservations directly through any of the links below. Mary Beth writes,

Join the Friendship Botanic Gardens members and directors for our annual fundraising gala, held at board president John Leinweber's Firefly Farm in La Porte on Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 6-11 p.m and party with your posse! Cowboy welcome begins at 5 p.m. Our event this year will be unlike anything you’ve experienced before—you won’t want to miss it!

Tickets include an over-the-top Western steak dinner and dessert buffet, cigar and bourbon lounge sponsored by Journeyman Distillery, musical entertainment by Johnny V and Al Joseph, as well as Amplified Sounds DJ, and line dancing. You’ll also want to join us in welcoming our featured and honored guest speaker, Mayor of La Porte, Tom Dermody!

Tickets are $125/person and are available for purchase until Thursday, July 15th.
