Reefer Gladness

America's Prohibition on Marijuana
and the Current Silent Revolution

JONATHAN SELF

Tuesday, March 13, 2018
5:30 - 8:30 pm
The Lounge at Iwan Ries
19 South Wabash Ave

Cocktails at 5:30, with the presentation at 6:00 for about thirty minutes, followed by Q&A and general cocktail conversation. Reservations are required.

Jonathan Self writes: "I will speak in depth about the state of cannabis in our state... and country. We find ourselves smack in the middle of another states' rights debate and this time it's not an argument over human life but over... a plant? Or is it? And what of the noise about medical use? Do miracles exist in medicine? How much money is really at stake here? Are we looking at a new "Green Rush"? And what about the children?!

"I'll cover the history of the weed from the 1930's reefer madness through the failed war on drugs up to the current administration. No samples will be provided."

Jonathan is a long time member, devotee, and champion of the Cigar Society of Chicago. He has a few degrees, including an MFA in acting, and he met his wife of ten years at Oxford University. About the Cigar Society of Chicago

ONE OF THE OLDEST AND greatest traditions of the city clubs of Chicago is the discussion of intellectual, social, legal, artistic, historical, scientific, musical, theatrical, and philosophical issues in the company of educated, bright, and appropriately provocative individuals, all under the beneficent influence of substantial amounts of tobacco and spirits.  The Cigar Society of Chicago embraces this tradition and extends it with its Informal Smokers, University Series lectures, and Cigar Society Dinners, in which cigars, and from time to time pipes and cigarettes, appear as an important component of our version of the classical symposium.  To be included in the Cigar Society's mailing list, write to the secretary at curtis.tuckey@logicophilosophicus.org.
