South Wabash, 2d floor

More students are enrolled in community colleges across the
country than in four year institutions, taking courses from
remedial education, to English As A Second Language, to
vocational and transfer programs. The community college has
become all things to all people for educational needs and this
is thus both its strength and its weakness. As an indication of
its importance, the President has recently announced his
intention to support
community
colleges with a $2 billion appropriation.
Mark Warden
is President Emeritus of Daley College, one of the City Colleges
of Chicago. Before that he served as professor at Wright
College and was provost of Loop and City-Wide Colleges. He
also ran education programs for the Air Force and the Department
of Labor overseas. He has a PhD from the University of Chicago,
where he wrote a dissertation under Leo Strauss. He is now
retired, reading, smoking, drinking, and living in Argentina and
Chicago.

About
the Cigar Society of Chicago
ONE OF THE OLDEST AND greatest
traditions of the city clubs of Chicago is the discussion of
intellectual, social, legal, artistic, historical, scientific,
musical, theatrical, and philosophical issues in the company of
educated, bright, and appropriately provocative individuals, all
under the beneficent influence of substantial amounts of tobacco
and spirits. The
Cigar Society of Chicago embraces this tradition and
extends it with its Informal Smokers,
University Series lectures, and Cigar Society Dinners,
in which cigars, and from time to time pipes and cigarettes,
appear as an important component of our version of the classical
symposium. To be included in the Cigar Society's
mailing list, write to the Secretary at
CigarSociety@logicophilosophicus.org.
